Debutant duo combine well for AFC but United hold on to claim a point

Banbridge Town AFC picked up na credible 1-1 draw against Crewe United Reserves on Saturday, largely thanks to bright debuts from Declan Loy and Steven McCavitt.

The two young players have impressed in training and showed their worth when great play between the two 12 mins in seen Declan Loy put clean through and the recovering Crewe defender got in a tackle but no penalty was given.

AFC soon went ahead though, again through the dangerous duo. Loy again broke through the Crewe defence and squared the ball to strike partner McCavitt who cut inside and slotted the ball home.

AFC then seemed to stop doing the basics and allowed Crewe to finish the half the stronger. After half-time, poor closing down allowed Crewe to break through the midfield and defence and equalise on 48 minutes.

This seemed to stun AFC and for the next 15 minutes, struggled to get into any sort of rhythm. However, they stopped feeling sorry for themselves and started to put together wave after wave of attacks with Ryan Williamson in great form down the right flank with sometimes two or three Crewe players ganging up to try and stop the flying winger.

AFC hit the upright after great play between Loy, McCavitt and Williamson and then another shot scraped the outside of the post. On 75 minutes, a 35 yard shot from captain Stuart Jordan thundered off the crossbar. AFC continued to pile the pressure on the Crewe goal but chance after chance went begging and the scores remained level.

MOTM was close with excellent performances from McCavitt and williamson but the pick was Declan Loy.
