Douglas heads Reserves’ survival campaign in the right direction

SCARVA RESERVES 1

SILVERWOOD RESERVES 0

A midweek victory over Silverwood Reserves could yet prove priceless in Scarva Rangers Reserves’ quest to avoid relegation.

The goal that secured victory came in the second half when a Wes Baird corner was headed into the Silverwood net by Greg Douglas.

Baird had been an influential figure in the match. Early in the first half, he unleashed a venomous shot that cannoned off the Silverwood crossbar. Later in the half, he put the ball in the back of the visitors’ net but it was disallowed for offside.

Silverwood struck the Scarva post with a headed effort and at the other end an Andrew Boyce header was saved by the Lurgan side’s keeper.

The visiting keeper was called into action again early in the second half when he turned a long range shot from David McCabe round his post.

Danny Cullen showed superb defensive awareness to break up a Silverwood attack when most of his team-mates were stranded at the other end of the pitch.

The hosts had a massive let off when a visiting player failed to convert a chance from close range and it was to prove even more costly when Douglas scored that decisive header.

The best for Scarva were Gareth Dale and Gareth Anderson.
