Gutsy Dromore side edged out in hard-fought Mid-Ulster Cup final

Dromore U12s 0

Glenavon U12s 1

All the Dromore Amateurs boys were looking forward to the Mid Ulster League Cup Final and knew it would be a very tight game.

So it proved to be.

In the first half, the three defenders Jack, Joel and Briggs kept it very tight at the back. The midfield of Magill, Morgan, Philip and Adam played the ball nicely round. Unfortunately, the winning goal came after 20 minutes when a Glenavon player was allowed a free run and his pass found the striker who slotted home.

From that moment onwards, Dromore dominated the game. Adam hit a powerful header goalward from a great corner from Magill, Briggs tried to score after the keeper dropped the ball, but the keeper caught it just in time.

Euan who was playing striker, did not realise the keeper had placed the ball in play and had walked back to take a run up to clear the ball. John was shouting the ball was in play, when Euan attacked the ball the keeper closed the gap and he could only hit the post with his shot. Euan had another shot on target that fell on his right foot that the keeper saved.

In the second half, Euan and Jack made way for Jason and Nathan. Nathan’s longer throws caused some problems in Glenavon’s defence and Magill and Jason who was up front started to cause panic amongst their defence. This produced Dromore’s best domination of the game. Adam had a great shot blocked.

There was a fantastic opportunity from the resulting Dromore corner which was whipped in by Jason. It was nearly met by Joel’s diving header, which could have been the goal of the season

Josh had to come out a few times second half to launch the ball back into the opposition’s half. On one occasion with minutes to go the ball fell to Brigg,s who immediately shot the ball goal wards, the ball just went wide with the goal keeper beaten and the defender diving to try and clear the ball.

Coaches John and Dave would like to say they were very proud of the performance today and would like to thank, the large crowd of parents, relations, friends and committee members who came and supported the team. They would also like to thank the two unused subs Ben and Shey.
