Heavy loss for U11s

TOWN Juniors U11s were unlucky to conceed six goals in what was a closer game than the scoreline suggests.

The game started in blistering fashion with both teams giving a hundred percent but the Town lads used up a lot of energy as they chased down the opposition.

The visitors opened the scoring on 10 minutes after a defensive mistake that left keeper Michael McGrath with no chance of getting to the ball.

Town responded well to this setback and began to pile on pressure as Ross Shields made well timed tackles, and the hardworking Max Wilson broke up play closing down any danger around the middle of the park.

Jack Arlow caused problems down the left as his penetrating runs had the Carniny defence on the backfoot. Shea Winters pushed forward from midfield and nearly scored with a well time run into the box but the keeper closed him down to deny the chance.

The locals got their goal that they deserved from a corner. Max Wilson swung in the kick from the left and found Shea Winters who fed Jake Corbett and he created space, spun on the spot and netted past the hapless keeper to make it 1-1 at the break.

The second half was a different matter as Carniny came out of the blocks quickest and hit three goals without reply to stun the Juniors. Town pulled one back  on 54 minutes after a long range shot from David Faulkner was met by Ben Johnston who shot, but as the keeper parried Shea Winters was quickest to react and tapped in from close range.

This goal gave the lads confidence and they began up the tempo with James Orr and Joshua Woods seeing plenty of the ball, linking up play and creating good chances.

Dozie Ajeh fought hard and gave Banbridge hope as he made determined runs into the box from midfield but unfortunately couldn’t convert these chances into goals to leave the final score 6-2.

Man of the match was the versatile Shea Winters who put in a hard working display. Team – M. McGrath, D. McGill, C. Sands, J Orr, R. Shields, J. Woods, M. Wilson,  J Corbett  B. Johnston, D. Faulkner, S. Winters,  J. Arlow,  D. Ajeh
