'˜I went full John Terry' says skipper (with no shame)

The skipper was on the bench and didn’t get on the pitch but nonetheless, he stripped off into his kit at full-time to lift the trophy.

Unlike the Chelsea captain, he might get away without a host of memes being made - and he’s not even embarrassed.

“I did go full John Terry,” he laughed, still enjoying the celebrations a day later.

“Glenavon is a special club. Whether we started, were on the bench or in the stand, we were all part of it.

“Getting to an Irish Cup final and winning it is so special no matter how many times you do it.

“It was absolutely amazing. We couldn’t have asked for anymore.”

The club’s 2-0 win over Linfield was fully deserved after a dominant performance at Windsor Park.

Lindsay missed out on a starting spot as Conor Dillon and Simon Kelly got the nod.

“Gary (Hamilton) got our team and our tactics spot on,” the Dromore man conceded, and not even through gritted teeth.

“He has to make tough decisions and we kept a clean sheet so he got it right. The boys were fantastic.”

Lindsay was also quick to pour praise on goalkeeper Jonny Tuffey.

The Banbridge man made a save from Simon Kelly in the opening minutes, and that, Kris says, was invaluable in bringing the Cup back to Lurgan:

“Jonny made a great save and that proved to be a massive moment in the game. They had been on top and if they scored, you would expect them to see the game out. Jonny made that save and after that, we had ridden the storm.

“We thought it would be tight but after the first 15 minutes, it was comfortable for us.”

Kris has played 31 games this season but is still waiting on a new contract. He is hoping that will be tied up soon.

He said: “Rhat’s the way it is for the boys over 30. Gary likes to wait to the end of the season so we’ll see what happens over the next couple of weeks. Hopefully we can get something sorted.”
