McCrum’s winner makes it four unbeaten for Rangers Reserves

Banbridge Rangers Reserves kept up their unbeaten run with a 2-1 win away to Loughgall Reserves on Saturday.

The away side started off brightly and got their just rewards after only seven minutes. A neat piece of play by Aaron Chambers and Dean Mallen saw a superb through ball latched onto by the lively Dean Gordon who lobbed the keeper from 18 yards.

The early goal kicked Loughgall into gear and they were able to pen the Gers back in their half. Solid defending by Wayne Nelson and Kyle Sergeant in front of confident keeping by Matthew Freeburn saw the tie remain 1-0 until the 36th minute when Loughgall equalised with a near post tap in.

Rangers came out hungry in the second half and Dean Gordon’s initiative to take a quick throw into the path of Matthew McCrum saw the defender burst forward and fire his shot into the bottom corner from 25 yards after dancing past three challenges.

There were a few half chances for each team in the last 20 minutes but some good organisation and hunger from the young Rangers team saw them get their first win and remain unbeaten for four games in the Reserve Championship League. This was a fantastic team performance with everyone working for each other.

RANGERS RESERVES: Matthew Freeburn, Jason Adamson, Kyle Sergeant, Wayne Nelson (c), Matthew McCrum, Dean Mallen, Matthew McKnight, Neil Wilson, Aaron Chambers, Ryan Weir and Dean Gordon. Subs: Reuben Cobb, Scott Lindsay and Jordan McCracken.
