Reserves fail to capitalise on positive start to game

SCARVA Rangers Reserves made the best possible start to Saturday’s league clash in Armagh but the afternoon quickly nosedived for the village side after that.

Their only goal of the game came after just ten minutes. An incisive passing movement involving Alex Hammond and Gregory Morton paved the way for a clinical finish by Ryan Dodds.

It was almost 2-0 when Dodds and Alex Hammond carved the home side apart with a penetrating attacking sequence of play but Dodds’ shot flashed just wide of the target.

But the Lisanally comeback was about to get underway and by half time they had scored three times to take a vice like grip on the game.

The hosts continued to be in the ascendency after the break and scored a fourth as Scarva paid the price for more lax defending. A fifth goal in the closing stages completed a comprehensive victory.

Sandwiched between the two second half goals was an Alex Hammond effort that struck the post but it would only have been a consolation goal for the deflated visitors.

Player Manager Freddie McKelvey said: “This was a poor performance from the team against a side who wanted it more and had some good quality players.

“After we scored we just didn’t match them for aggression and were made to pay.”

Best for Scarva Rangers Reserves – Wayne Jordon produced a steady performance at right back and Gregory Morton gave an energy filled display in midfield.

The club wishes to thank Mark Gracey (MG Safety Services) for sponsoring a match ball.
