In preparation, Slane returned to full training last week with two tough sessions.

On Thursday night at Cheney Park, under the guidance of Phsyio Lyndsay Henning, a series of fitness tests were carried out.

Then on Saturday the players started off at the poplar FootGolf in Newcastle for 9 Hole competition. After that it was down to the beach at Murlough for a long run and some intense sand dune work organised by new first team coach Matthew Newell.

The players then returned to Jubilee Park for a series of small sided matches .

Manager David Johnstone was pleased with how training has gone so far.

“I have to say I am impressed with the attitude of the squad,” he said. “We have had 13 out of a squad of 16 training and they are working well. It was a damp rainy night on Thursday but the guys came out and bust a gut. On Saturday, we had a bit of fun at the FootGolf before a session on the beach and then back at the club.

“Looking forward to the season ahead I am delighted that every single player has signed up for another season.”
