Slane seal semi-final spot

Moneyslane Reserves sealed their place in the O’Hara Cup semi-finals with a win over Derryhirk United Reserves at the weekend.

The first real chance came when Slane won a free kick on the edge of the box and the United keeper saved well from Gareth Wilson’s effort. Slane keeper Josh McCullough was called into action soon after but saved well.

The home side started the second half the quicker and began piling the pressure on the away defence. All this was soon to pay off when Mark Anderson delivered a corner to the back post, where it was met by Davy Cromie to score.

Derrykirk began to create some good opportunities and they drew level from a corner. Soon after, they took the lead tapping in from close range. Moneyslane grabbed themselves a lifeline in the last few minutes when Gareth Wilson was fouled inside the box to win a penalty and with the last kick of the game, coolly finished to draw level.

Both teams entered extra-time cautiously and so on it went to prenalties. Gareth Wilson, Jonny Adair, Mark Anderson, Kyle Scott and Ervine Boyd all finished well to fire the Slane into the semi-Finals as Derrykirk missed their third spot-kick.
