U12s knock Castle off their throne

PREPARATIONS for this George Best league match weren’t ideal for the away side with a number of players unavailable at short notice leaving the young Dromore team to start the match with only nine players.

Right from the off though Dromore took the game to Castle Juniors and had them on the back foot. The midfield trio of Odhran Crozier, Henry Thomas and especially Tom Stannage in the first half were terrorising the Castle defence.

Dromore took the lead after some strong determination from Lewis Sinclair, his first attempt was blocked on the line by a defender but he reacted quickly to stab the ball home from close range at the second attempt.

Dromore should have added a couple more goals before the break but were denied by the Castle keeper. Castle regrouped at halftime and came out the second half in a more determined manner.

This forced Dromore to defend for the opening 15 minutes of the second half. Ben Scott, James Howard, Ian Palmer and Jamie Gregg had to roll up their sleeves to contend with the Castle onslaught but they were more than a match for the attackers. Castle got their equaliser after a long range shot squirmed through the hands of Oliver McLuckie.

As the team spirit in previous games has been really good it was typified again in this match if not more so.

The U12s didnt let this setback deter them, and it was Odhran Crozier who’s workrate was immense in the second half found himself the hero of the moment. A strong run down the left wing saw Odhran Crozier dribble pass four Castle players and his strength held off a last ditch tackle before he unleashed a strong effort which found the back of the net.

The win was fully deserved for the U12s and the way the players conducted themselves throughout the game the whole team can be very proud of their performances.

On the day the George Best man of the match went to Odhran Crozier and the Coaches award went to Tom Stannage.

Next week the U12s travel to Cairnshill PS to play Saintfield with an 11am kickoff.
