There was more success for West Down Wheelers Cycling Club at the weekend, in what has been an absolutely fantastic year’s racing for the riders from the club.
The club have seen some fantastic results coming so far from young Brandon Douglas, Paul Wilkinson, and Ian Weir.
However, in the Eddy Crory Memorial the club had a good squad of riders taking part, as Eddy’s first club was the Wheelers and they thought it was only right to send riders to represent the club.
And what a night it turned out for the local club with their riders representing the Wheelers fantastically.
But it was Thomas Niblock who caught the eye with a superb second place in this very tough race.
Thomas, like Brandon and Ian who joined at the start of the season, has been in tremendous form and representing the colours of the Wheelers brilliantly.
And so to round off a superb week for the club at the Noel Teggart Memoiral Race at the weekend, Ian Weir rode his socks off for a fantastic second place in the A4 race, getting him enough points to catapult him up into the A3s.
Brandon Douglas had to ride the A4s getting sixth place alongside Matt Brandon and Dave, with Paul, Andy, Matt and Dave riding well to finish their races.
Race Secretary of West Down Wheelers said: “I’m chuffed to bits with the way our riders are performing and the impact it’s having in the club.
“So it’s a massive ‘well done’ to them all and I have no doubt there is more to come.
“What pleases me most is the new riders in the club who are loving every minute of it and that is very reassuring as we strive to make the Wheelers even better as we never rest on our laurels.”
Next week’s club race is a 25 mile TT on Castlewellan Road for the Steven Savage Memorial.
Meanwhile, West Down Wheeler Paul McManus had another fantastic result in the Firmus Triathlon Series at the weekend. He took another first place in his class in the Derry leg of the series, following up the first he had up in Portrush earlier on in the season.
