Last Saturday all Roads led to Katesbridge for West Down Wheeler’s very popular West Down GP with riders from as far away as Dublin taking part.

The first race was the Masters and Ladies with three laps of a tough rolling circuit.

Care O’Neil from Square Wheels was the winner of the Ladies and Benny O’Kane was the Masters winner.

In the A4s who had five laps it was Eddy Shannon who took the first prize.

In the main race they had six laps with Rathfriland Hill on last lap.

It was Connor McCann who was a very worthy winner, with Jonny Buller getting into the prizes with an excellent result.

West Down Wheelers would like to say a massive thanks to just over 200 riders who signed on to make it an excellent days racing,

According to the Wheelers a marshal error 100 yards from finish soured the big bunch sprint but it didn’t effect the seven breakaway riders who all got prizes.

Another thanks from the Wheelers goes to to St John’s Ambulance, PSNI, The Bike Shak, Berty and all the Marshalls, to all the car drivers and to Barbara and Faith in the hall.

This week’s race is the Quarry Corbett circuit which is another tough one.

Next week’s race is the very popular Aussie / Pursuit starting the Castlewellan Rd to the Castlewellan roundabout and back with a total of 31 miles.

Then on June 7th west Down Wheelers have a 10 mile TT on the Warrenpoint Carriageway. Sign on from 6pm. This is for the Eric Maxwell Memorial.
