NOMADS LEFT WITH NOWHERE TO TURN
Dromore Ladies Veterans 4 Newcastle Nomads Veterans 1
ALEC Morton Contracts Dromore Ladies Veterans played Newcastle vets at Ferris Park in a league encounter last Friday night.
With the sun setting the evergreen Dromore side, captained by Kate Russell, began the game in emphatic fashion with Ruth Ravey scoring after just 38 first half seconds.
The first period was played a fast pace with midfielders Cheryl Jenkins, Ravey and Andrea Wilson using all their experience to set up numerous attacks on the visiting goal.
Sharon Russell and Lynne Nesbitt both went close, as did Ali Orr who ghosted in from the left wing.
Speedy winger Nesbitt notched the second; a great driving run from captain Russell and Andrea Wilson created an opportunity for an unmarked Nesbitt to slot home.
Dromore's third goal came courtesy of a real blast from the past routine. A Kate Russell penalty corner was stopped on a sixpence by Cheryl Jenkins and the execution was timeless from Anne Kinley. A joy to watch and treasure.
The fourth goal was created by winger Lynne Nesbitt. The pacey forward evaded two challenges and squared to the back post and after a brief scramble Ali Orr pushed home to further the home side's advantage.
Newcastle still did not give up and to their credit were awarded with a consolation goal in the dying seconds, another goal mouth scramble saw the ball slip past sweeper Cathy Sturgeon and stranded keeper Karen Johnston.
The Alec Morton Contracts Dame of the Game was awarded to creative destroyer Andrea Wilson who rolled back the years with a solid midfield performance.
