Seapatrick get off to a great start in 2013

THE first Mid Ulster Intermediate A encounter of 2013 for Seapatrick brought Markethill to Havelock Park.

In the first few minutes the Village had to defend well against a strong Markethill attack from a series of corners.

Momentum soon changed after this and it was Seapatrick with the string of attacks and corners that threatened the Markethill goal but was unfortunate to capitalise from it.

In the 10th minute, Liam McGarry twisted and turned the Markethill defence into committing a foul on him in their box which led to a penalty that was scored by Stephen McGrath.

Late in the first half, Markethill found themselves a man down through a bad tackle, which was quickly followed by dissent to the referee which meant a quick second yellow card.

Just after the restart of the match after half time Seapatrick scored again. It came from Mark Watt threading the ball through for Keith McVitty, who chased onto the ball then coolly slotted it home.

In the 63rd minute the Village had another great chance that went just wide of the post. A few minutes after this, Markethill had a shot cleared off the Seapatrick line by Warren Buchanan to keep the local side 2-0 ahead.

With the end of the game nearing, Markethill were still applying pressure to the Village and hit a high ball into Seapatrick box that Paul McGrath unfortunately missed that led to a consolation goal for the visitors.

Towards the end of the match Seapatrick substitute Andrew Chambers broke into the Markethill box and unluckily hit the post leaving the score at the final whistle 2-1 to Seapatrick.

This was a good start to 2013 for the Villagers, who will seek to keep picking points up as the year goes on.
