Seconds go on the rampage

BANBRIDGE Seconds continue to top Junior One after a convincing win over Mossley Thirds, however they were required to remain patient for their victory.

The Seconds welcomed Ross Beattie into their squad but were without top goal scorer and short corner expert Ross McCandless.

Banbridge started the game brightly and were unlucky not to take the lead when a deflection from Beattie hit the post in the first couple of minutes.

Woods and McAnulty were causing Mossley all sorts of problems with their pace and guile however were unable to trouble the Mossley keeper.

Mossley were troubling Bann with long aerials from their back four but the forwards were unable to collect the aerials and turn possession into serious attacks. Close to the end of the first half Bann won a free hit just outside the Mossley twenty five and Burns fired the ball into the circle and Beattie deflected the ball past the Mossley keeper.

Bann got off to an excellent start in the second half when a deft touch from Jess found McAnulty unmarked and he made no mistake to increase Bann’s lead.

McAnulty was on hand again to add a further goal from close in. Bann were now in full flow and after a shot from Malcolmson was well saved from the Mossley keeper Woods knocked in the rebound.

Malcolmson turned from provider to goal scorer after he volleyed a rebound from a McAnulty shot into the net on his reverse.

Bann won only their second corner of the game midway through the second half of the game and Burns stepped up to dispatch a straight strike from a switched move.

Bann were now in total control and an excellent ball from McAnulty found an advancing Sturgeon from right back. Sturgeon entered the circle and fired the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the goal. Sturgeon continued to venture forward and doubled his goal tally when he collected a rebound and slotted the ball through the Mossley keepers legs.

Mossley continued to battle away but were unable to trouble the Bann defence. Bann now travel to Mossley to take on their seconds on Saturday November 24 and hope to continue their winning ways.
