STANDARD IS SET FOR REST OF SEASON

Dromore Ladies 1 Raphoe 0

HALFWAY House Dromore Ladies began knowing this match could potentially set the standard for the present season.

And after last seasons wins against Raphoe a lot of pressure rested on their shoulders of whether they could do it again.

The team worked hard from the whistle and short, clever passing between Joanna Wilkinson and Nikki Wilson enabled the ball to be carried up the line and passed to Susi Betts.

Betts made a good run into the circle, however Raphoe were quick to close down any play by Dromore.

The locals did not give up easily and were persistent with their play as more and more outbursts were made from the Dromore side.

Emma Cochrane ran the line and took the ball around the Raphoe players, winning a short corner.

A great strike by Jo Titterington in the short corner narrowly missed, as the ball hit the post. Raphoe fought back and the Dromore defence had to continually work hard to stop any shots.

Good clearances at the back were made by Gail Ward and Rachel Russell as the ball was transferred to the attacking Dromore side where Shauna Haughey skilfully dribbled past the Raphoe defence, laying off a superb pass to Melissa Stokes.

Stokes took a straight strike however the Raphoe keeper managed to save the shot, but Stokes followed in for a reverse rebound, scoring a crucial goal for Dromore.

With half-time passing, Dromore knew that they would have to be consistent in their play and work extra hard to keep the lead.

Raphoe, determined to win, made some strong breaks but Dromore goalkeeper Laura Wilson made some super saves.

Julie Morton defended well and made good passes up the left hand side to midfielder Laura Wilson. She searched for available options and found Adelle Gilliland who passed high for the forwards.

Emma Cochrane carried the ball into the circle but the keeper was quickly out, blocking any shots.

With full time gone, Dromore knew they had done well and worked hard to keep the 1-0 win.
