SUN SHINES ON DROMORE FIRSTS
Dromore Ladies 1sts 4 Enniskillen 1sts 0
THE Halfway House Dromore Ladies Firsts, sponsored by Clean and Classy, entertained Enniskillen at a sunny Ferris Park last Saturday.
Dromore set out to put the disappointment behind them of their first defeat of the season the week before. Adele Gamble quickly made her mark in midfield with a number of timely tackles and linked up well with Nikki Wilson as Dromore got quickly into the game with some slick passing and movement off the ball.
The Enniskillen keeper was quickly called into action as Dromore pressurised the Enniskillen circle. Shauna Haughey had a close range shot saved and Emma Cochrane forced a save at the near post after a mazy run along the by-line.
Nikki Wilson was unfortunate not to score when her goalbound shot was saved mid-air by the keeper's stick.
The breakthrough eventually came from a penalty corner. Nikki Wilson's shot was saved, only for Jo Titterington to slot the rebound into the corner of the goal.
Dromore kept most of the possession as Enniskillen relied on the counter attack to break into the Dromore half. However Julie Morton, Rachel Russell and Gail Ward were alert to the danger and prevented the Enniskillen attack from getting anywhere near the circle, leaving Dromore keeper Laura Irwin a spectator for the whole half.
Dromore went into half-time 2-0 up. After some skilful play and good passing in the circle Nikki Wilson drilled the ball across the face of the goal for Suzi Betts to deflect the ball into the roof of the goal.
The halftime instructions were for more of the same, and Dromore continued the second half in the same vein as the first. Dromore were able to utilise the substitutes bench and bring fresh legs on to further torment Enniskillen.
There was some great flowing play with Emma Cochrane benefiting most on the left wing as she continuously weaved her way into the circle. Suzi Betts and Zoe Bawden both had opportunities on goal just to see their shots go wide.
The pressure soon paid off and Dromore were awarded a penalty corner and although the first phase attack broke down the ball did find Jo Titterington at the flick spot for her to slot the ball past the keeper again in a goal similar to her first.
Dromore's dominance continues, and Emma Cochrane was rewarded for her endeavour with a goal of her own. This time after some good support play in the circle, Emma was on hand to score from close range.
The game was won, but Enniskillen were still made to defend although they held out until the final whistle.
This was a strong performance from Dromore with good support play and entertaining hockey - just what they needed after their previous result.
