U16s ease past Holywood

BANBRIDGE U16s continued their unbeaten run after Christmas with a superb win against Holywood in Banbridge Leisure Centre on Tuesday 22 January.

With a number of breaks from the centre pass Banbridge took an early lead in the 1st quarter and denied Holywood any opportunity from scoring.

It took the away team eight minutes before they scored their first goal in the quarter resulting in a 9-2 advantage to Banbridge.

The team remained the same going into the second quarter with all seven players working fantastically as a team to clinically play the ball from one end of the court to the shooting circle.

Both GA Helen Monaghan and GS Courtney Morris were on fire in the shooting circle and made the most of all the opportunities presented to them. Banbridge ended the second quarter with a 16-4 lead.

Half time saw Niamh Markey replace Courtney Morris in GS, Sarah Loughran replace Melissa Whan in WA and Ellen Mooney replace Cherie Hamilton in WD. Banbridge continued their strong attacking and defensive play throughout the court in the third quarter. The home side were undeniably on fire pressurising hard to making it difficult for Holywood to get the ball into their shooting circle. Third quarter score Banbridge 25–6 Holywood. Going into the last quarter Melissa Whan came back on to replace Chloe Finnegan in C and GD Emma Cartmill and GK Rachel Ryan swapped positions. The momentum continued for Banbridge and no matter how hard Holywood tried they could not force Banbridge to make mistakes.

Well done to all players and a big thank you to all those that came and supported.
