Belfast Community Gospel choir support local volunteer

Local Banbridge and Queens University Psychology student Holly McSpadden will be travelling to Sri Lanka on September 12 with youth charity Sri Lanka Volunteers to provide twelve weeks of support to desolate communities suffering from severe mental health issues.

Holly will be providing her skills and experience alongside ‘Samutthana’ the King’s College London resource Centre for trauma, displacement and mental health in Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lanka Volunteers run sensory, musical and creative therapies with individuals suffering from acute mental illness within mental health care homes, psychiatric hospitals and rehabilitation centres. Holly will also have the opportunity to support children with special needs and teach English to local young people.

Holly is a proud member of the highly acclaimed Belfast Community Gospel Choir, Northern Ireland’s first and only multicultural gospel choir.

BCGC performances are charged with passion and energy and the sheer joy they exude from the stage is infectious.

The choir is hoping the local community will come along and experience this joyful event together whilst supporting a worthwhile cause.

Holly promises that this will be a ‘one of a kind’ night for Banbridge.

“It is impossible to leave one of our concerts without feeling uplifted, no matter who you are, what you believe or what’s going on in your life,” she said. “I promise an evening with us will help the world feel a whole lot brighter.”
