Musical group to stage Annie

“We are excited to announce that our November 2016 show will be Annie, the Broadway musical based upon the popular Harold Gray comic strip Little Orphan Annie,” explained a spokesperson for the Society.

“We also have a brand new production team - Director, Choreographer and Musical Director, details of which will be revealed soon.”

‘Annie’ tells the well-known story of the little orphan girl and her struggle to find a family of her very own.

With music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin, this smash hit show includes the popular songs ‘Tomorrow’ and ‘It’s the Hard Knock Life’.

Adult members of the company will commence rehearsals on Monday September 5 at 7.30pm at Abercorn Primary School, Newry Road, Banbridge.

Further information about adult membership, as well as the audition process for Annie, will be announced on the night.

Auditions for children and teenagers will also be announced soon.

Annie will run at the Iveagh Movie Studios from Wednesday November 16 until Sunday November 20. There will be six shows in total, including matinees on both the Saturday and Sunday.

The Society spokesperson added: “We look forward to welcoming new and returning members, adult, teenagers and children. So spread the news amongst your friends and those who might be interested.”

Banbridge Musical Society celebrated it’s 70th birthday in 2013.

The Society was formed as the Banbridge Choral Society in 1943 when they performed many choral pieces, as well as Gilbert and Sullivan operettas.

In the 1970s the move to musical theatre provided a broader range of shows and pantomimes to be performed, as well as an amendment to the company name.

Over the years the Society has given the opportunity to hundreds of local children, adults and teenagers to sing and act on the stage. This has inspired many budding thespians who have gone on to greater heights.
