Tribute to victims of Nice attack

The concert took place in the Old Town Hall Banbridge on Thursday, July 21, under the leadership of musical directors Vessie and Nikolai Ivanov.

Showing support for people of Nice, Sandra Parker read a poem for peace in French, while the choir ended the evening with a poignant piece entitled You Raise Me Up.

Praising the continued work of the members of Accolade Choir, MLA Jo-Anne Dobson said of the concert: “From the start to the end the Old Town Hall was filled with magnificent music as once again the members of Accolade Choir entertained us with their many musical talents.

“It was very moving that in their concert they paid solemn tribute to those who lost their lives in the recent terrorist attack in Nice.

“We are no stranger to the deep hurt and pain inflicted by those who are wedded to violence as a means of attempting to achieve their objectives, however they can and will never ever be allowed to succeed and by standing together as we did on Thursday evening we showed solidarity with those who suffered loss in France.

Joining Mrs Dobson at the concert was local Councillor Glenn Barr. “It was great to see everyone coming out to support the local choir and to enjoy their music,” he said.

Speaking after the event MLA Carla Lockhart said: “Their tribute to the victims of the Nice attack was extremely moving and reminds us all of how important it is to stand together against terrorism.

Deputy Lord Mayor Paul Greenfield added: “It was honour to attend this event.”
