Argos seek 42 extra staff for Christmas

Forty-two seasonal workers are being sought by Argos for their stores in Portadown, Craigavon and Armagh to cover the Christmas period.

Customer advisors and stock assistants are needed to help meet predicted customer demand.

The number also includes Fast Track drivers for the store-to-customer-door distribution service, which guarantees same-day delivery.

Initial contracts for all vacancies are around three to four months, with the potential for some roles to become permanent at the end of the season, where vacancies exist.

Recruits will be offered a minimum of 10 hours per week (minimum of six hours for weekend staff).

According to the company, new team members will receive competitive rates of pay and immediate benefits of 10 per cent staff discount at Argos.

The ‘My Benefits’ scheme gives all staff exclusive savings and local discounts both online and in a variety of other high street retailers.

A spokesperson said, “Successful applicants can gain valuable and transferable skills via Argos’ Open Door training system.

“This enables them to work through retail training modules at work, on the move or from the comfort of their own home using their smartphone, tablet or PC.”

Stephen Kelly, regional manager at Argos Northern Ireland, said, “The Christmas period is naturally an extremely busy and exciting time of year for Argos and our ability to offer more than 60,000 products for the whole family is why thousands of people shop with us over the festive season.

“The work is fast-paced, varied and rewarding with the potential to learn a whole set of new skills.

“Many in the past have gone on to develop their career with us and progress rather rapidly to run a team, department or even store, helping to drive sales and deliver great customer service.”
