WITH 100 members, Dromore Beekeepers' Association is being hailed as the largest beekeepers' association in Northern Ireland.

The news emerged at the group's recent annual general meeting, where Dromore High School principal Mr. John Wilkinson chaired the election of office-bearers and committee.

Mr. Wilkinson also gave what was described as "a challenging" address about co-operation between the Beekeepers' Association and the school, in which the association now meets.

Office-bearers elected were - Chairman, Patrick Lundy, Ballynahinch; Vice-chairman, Sam Baird, Lisburn; Secretary, Vanessa Drew, Ballyroney; Assistant secretary, Terry Ingles, Dromore; Treasurer, Gail Orr, Hillsborough; Librarian, Anne Wilson, Banbridge; Press officer, Norman Walsh, Hillsborough; Apiary manager, Kevin Maguire, Banbridge and Honey show manager, Cecil McMullan, Hillsborough.

The committee is composed of office-bearers plus Billy Douglas, Ballynahinch; Mervyn Eddie, Ballinderry; Nigel Erskine, Dollingstown; Alan Porter, Ballynahinch; Jackie Kirkpatrick, Ballynahinch; Robert McCreery, Banbridge and Les Simms, Hillsborough.

After the business was conducted, Sam Baird demonstrated bee microscopy.
