Local DUP MLA Sydney Anderson has called for urgent action in relation to animal cruelty.

This comes in the wake of a recent case of animal abuse where an individual was given a suspended sentence after leaving her dog to die without food or water.

Mr Anderson said: “The woman who committed this act of animal abuse was also given a five year banning order from keeping a pet and a suspended sentence.

“There exists no effective means for policing such a ban. It needs to be recognised by everyone that there is an urgent requirement for a “Banned Offenders Register”.
