Carers urged to share views

The Patient and Client Council is encouraging carers of people with mental illness and learning disabilities to have their voice heard on carers’ assessments.

Carers have told the Patient and Client Council that while looking after someone with a mental illness or learning disability is undoubtedly challenging, it’s also a very worthwhile and fulfilling role, and one which requires support from others.

Project Co-Ordinator, Nigel Warburton explained: “Every carer is entitled to a carer’s support and needs assessment through their local Health and Social Care Trust. A carer’s assessment looks at the needs of the carer, not the person they care for.”
