Applying for the case against 45-year-old Tony Chee to be adjourned for three weeks, a prosecuting lawyer told Armagh Magistrates’ Court that in that period, the PPS and defence teams would consult about the best way to serve and copy the “voluminous files”.

Dr Chee is originally from Malaysia and has an address at Waringfield Close in Moira.

He is on bail facing eight counts of sexually assaulting seven female patients at the Richhill health centre where he worked on various dates between October 2009 and July 2011, although one offence is alleged to have happened “on a date unknown between 2004 and 2011”.

A previous court heard, however, that he is to be charged with 11 further similar allegations.

Yesterday a prosecution lawyer described the case as “very, very significant”.

She told the court that the next time the case came before the court, a date for a committal preliminary enquiry could be set after the defence had been given “sufficient time” to review the files.

District Judge Paul Copeland released Chee on continuing bail, and ordered the GP to appear again on October 13.
