First time pensioner had been
in a court

A 70-year-old man with a clear driving record was banned from the roads for 12 months last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court.

Douglas Melvin McSkimmon, Forthill Green Banbridge, was also fined £150 for driving with excess alcohol on September 4 last year. As well he was ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that in the early hours of the morning police went to an incident at Iveagh Drive in Banbridge.

They spoke to the defendant who was unsteady on his feet. A breath test gave a reading of 46 and a blood test gave a reading of 109.

A barrister representing the defendant said his client had made a full admission. He had never been in court before.
