A motorist told police he may have been driving at near 100mph when he was stopped for speeding on the A1 near Loughbrickland.
Hugh Thomas Kennedy (46), Upper Malone Road, Dunmurry, was fined £100 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for excess speed on April 5 this year.
He was also given three points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.
The court heard that at 10.30pm police saw a jeep travelling at a high speed..
Police followed the vehicle and it reached a speed of 95mph. The defendant’s wife and young children were in the car. Kennedy had just picked them up from Dublin airport.
A barrister saidKennedy had a record which was of some vintage and there were no points on his licence.
He added that when he was stopped Kennedy had said he was probably driving at close to 100mph.
District Judge, Mrs Bernie Kelly, said it was a pretty high speed but she would take into account his lack of a previous record.
