Police found drugs in stopped car

A passenger in a car stopped by police near Banbridge had Diazepam tablets and cannabis in his possession, the local court has heard.

Pat Ward (20), White Rise, Dunmurry, was fined £250 last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court for unlawful possession of herbal cannabis on July 7 last year.

He was also fined £250 for unlawful possession of Diazepam and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that at 7.45pm a car was stopped by police near Banbridge and Ward was a front seat passenger.

When searched five blue tablets were found and he also had two bags containing a green substance.

Ward admitted it was herbal cannabis and said it was for his own personal use.

A solicitor representing the defendant said he had no previous drugs convictions and had co-operated with the police.
