Shock at Banbridge burglary figures

A crime prevention campaign to help residents deter burglars while they are on holiday has been launched by the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council after 98 burglaries were reported in the Banbridge area in just one year.

The ‘Peace of Mind While You’re Away’ campaign is being carried out by the local Policing and Community Safety Partnership working along with the PSNI, travel agents and community groups.

Mr Sydney Anderson MLA said he was shocked at the number of burglaries in the area and welcomed the new campaign.

He said: “I welcome the introduction of the ‘Peace of Mind While You’re Away’ campaign. This campaign will be focused on providing leaflets to members of the public which focus on advice on how to make their homes secure whilst away on holidays.

“I was shocked to discover that over 90 burglaries took place in the Banbridge area over the period of a year.

“It is imperative that the police continue to conduct anti-burglary patrols and have a presence on the streets to prevent and deter burglaries from taking place.”
