Dromara siblings return from Kenyan outreach

A Dromara brother and sister have returned from an ‘eye opening’ missionary outreach project in Kenya.

Emma and Kyle Hamilton of Ballykeel Baptist Church, spent 10 days on missionary outreach work in January.

They were joined by Rebecca Burrows and Caleb McCready, also from the Church, on a team of 22 people from Friends of Africa Missionary Endeavour.

FAME is an independent organisation that follows the programme of Evangelism through medicine and other humanitarian aid in remote areas of Eastern Kenya.

The organisation runs two Medical Clinics and an orphanage in Kisumu, Western Kenya, and the team were involved in building classrooms, dorms and offices at a special needs school.

They spent time out in the bush giving out food packages and money and sharing God’s love with the Kenyan people.

They also spent some time with the children at the Fame Centre and had “great fun” playing with them.

Speaking of her missionary outreach work Emma said: “We all had an amazing time and God showed us how awesome He really is as we spent our time out there”.

Kyle, who is training to be a refrigeration and air conditioning engineer, described his experience as a “big eye-opener”.

He said, “When you have been somewhere like that you really appreciate the small things in life. Emma had been before and knew what to expect but this was my first time and it was challenging but I am so glad I experienced it and I definitely would like to do more missionary work.

“Seeing the poverty and hearing stories about how some of the children we were working with had been treated was hard to understand.

“There was one child with special needs who was found tied up. His mother had tied him up and he only had about two feet to move in.”

Kyle, on behalf on the team, thanked everyone who had show them support.

He said: “We have received so much support and encouragement from our families and friends and it has been great being able to share our experiences with them, highlighting what life is like out there.”
