The latest event in Dromore High School’s drive to fund relief work in Uganda tees off early next month.
With its sights set on funding construction of a kitchen and latrines for the community of Jandira, the school has organised a golf classic, hosted by Edenmore Golf Club at Magheralin and sponsored by Hillsborough firm, M&K Units.
The project is one of a series that has seen Dromore High contribute to the building and painting of classrooms, the purchase of agricultural land as a sustainable food resource, the provision of materials for Jandira’s schools and clothing for children in the slum areas of Kampala.
With some 21 young people set to self-finance an upcoming trip to Uganda in March next year, all proceeds from the June 12 golf classic will go directly to the kitchen/latrine project.
A spokesperson said: “It is the school’s desire to actively support this Ugandan community.
“We are very much aware of their need but without your assistance we will not be able to realise our goal. The school has already secured some sponsorship for the golf classic and would like to thank our main sponsor, M&K Units, Hillsborough, who are designers and makers of exclusive, handcrafted, fitted furniture.
“We appreciate all support already received. For other businesses wishing to contribute in any way to this worthy cause they should please contact the school office on 028 9269 2278.”
Dromore High School’s new Principal, Mr McConaghy, added: “The work undertaken by our pupils in Uganda will bring improvement to the lives of the children in Jandira and it is wonderful to see them so enthusiastic about this project.
“All support and sponsorship for this worthwhile initiative will be very gratefully received on behalf of those Ugandan children who would love to be able to say thank-you in person.”
Fourballs for the golf day can be booked for a cost of £200 by contacting the school and speaking to Mr Bronte or Miss McMurran.
“Again, some of this cost will go directly to the project,” the spokesperson said, “but in addition to the golf there will be significant prizes, goody-bags, barbecue/refreshments at the 10th tee box and a meal provided at the end of what is sure to be a great day.”
