Honour for dedicated Red Cross stalwarts

THE Red Cross has honoured some of its dedicated and long-serving members in Dromore.

At a recent meeting of the Dromore Red Cross Group, eight stalwarts received awards in recognition of their lengthy service to the group and the wider organisation.

Each of the eight - Hazel Watson MBE, Olive Clarke, Margaret Coulter, May Kinkaid, Barbara Ellison, Ciara Curran, Sharon McCann and Martin Johnston - was presented with a medal marking 15 years or more of voluntary medical service.

Barbara Ellison also received a 20-year service award.

Director of Red Cross Northern Ireland, Mr. Norman McKinley himself handed over the medals, each inscribed with the words ‘long and efficient service’.

Delighted to welcome Mr. McKinley to Dromore, the local group also enjoyed his address on the work of Red Cross throughout the Province.

Meanwhile, as much as they value their veterans, the group is eager to recruit newcomers.

The Dromore Red Cross Group meets each Monday evening from 6.45-9pm at Dromore High School; it’s youth section, or Link Group, caters for members aged five-18 years.

“The leaders would be pleased to welcome new members,” said a spokesperson.
