Kicked doors of the station

A 48-year-old man kicked the doors of Banbridge police station and threw a punch at an officer who was arresting him.

Anthony Joseph McErlaine, Glentaisie Drive, Ballycastle, appeared last Thursday at Banbridge Court.

He admitted charges of disorderly behaviour, assaulting a police officer and resisting an officer on August 10.

The court heard he was kicking the station doors and then became abusive.

When he was being arrested for disorderly behaviour he threw a punch at an officer and continued to struggle.

A defence solicitor said McErlaine was a chronic alcoholic with a number of similar previous convictions but in the past six months he had managed to stay out of trouble.

The solicitor asked the court to consider a pre-sentence report to see if community service would be suitable.

He said McErlaine, who had been in custody since the offences, would be returning to Ballycastle.

The District Judge Paul Copeland fined him £100 on each charge.
