An award ceremony to

showcase the community work undertaken by

members of the Orange

Institution is due to take

place in Lisburn later this month.

The city’s Island Arts Centre will host the 10th Orange Community Awards on Friday, January 30.

The annual awards recognise and reward excellence within the Loyal Order.

They also acknowledge the achievements of those in the marching bands’ fraternity.

Among the prizes due to be presented at the much anticipated event include those of Best New Banner; Best Charity Fundraising Lodge; Individual and Lodge Community Involvement; Musician’s Merit, as well as a new Sporting Achievement category.

Senior Orangeman Edward Stevenson will also confer the special Grand Master’s Award.

Recipients in recent years of this title include Coleraine rower Alan Campbell and veteran broadcaster, Walter Love.

Dr David Hume, Grand Lodge Director of Services, said the awards ceremony continues to grow in stature since its inception in 2005.

He said: “It is hard to believe that the event has been running for 10 years.

“The first awards night was in Belfast.

“Since then the event has been throughout the Province, to locations such as Enniskillen, Carrickfergus, Bessbrook, Cookstown, Londonderry, Coleraine, and Newtownabbey.

“The aim of the awards is to recognise our members and friends for the efforts which they make in the wider community.

“Often good news does not travel and these awards give the opportunity for the Grand Lodge to recognise and to highlight the work which is carried out.”

A full programme of entertainment on the night will include Mourne Young Defenders Flute Band, Milltown Accordion Band, Sticks of Fire and gospel duo The Thompson Brothers.

Tickets can be obtained for the awards ceremony by contacting the Island Arts Centre box office on 028 9250 9254 or book online via

Tickets cost £10 each.

The event commences at 7.30pm.
