Local people who want to do their summer work-out with the sun on the backs can do just that at Dromore Community Centre thanks to the brand spanking new equipment - and all for free.

The Trim Trail features 12 exercise stations that offer people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to take part in physical activity in an attractive environment outside.

Made possible with support from the Public Health Agency, each piece of equipment can be used individually, in pairs or in groups and is ideally suited for classes and exercise programmes.

It is fun and safe to use with user guidance provided for each station. As well as being an excellent way to keep fit, the Trim Trail also promotes inter-generational and family activity.

Speaking at the launch of the Trim Trail, the Lord Mayor, Councillor Darryn Causby said: “Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council strives to be at the forefront of outdoor leisure provision and recreational development and the installation of this fantastic facility underlines the council’s commitment to promoting health and fitness for all.”

Gerry Bleakney, Head of Health and Social Wellbeing Improvement with the PHA in the southern area hoped the new equipment would help many people take the first steps to a more active lifestyle.

“It helps maintain a healthy weight, protect against heart disease, some cancers, type two diabetes and improve our mental health

“For many people, those first initial steps to becoming more physically active can be the hardest and a Trim Trail is a perfect introduction to a healthier lifestyle.

“Being free, convenient and accessible to all, it removes many barriers that might otherwise prevent people from taking those first steps.”
