The Ulster Unionist Party
has selected Lisburn
Redpath as its Lagan Valley candidate for the upcoming General Election.
Councillor Redpath is a practising solicitor and represents Downshire West on Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council.
“I am honoured to be selected as the Ulster Unionist candidate for Lagan Valley,” said Mr Redpath.
“The next parliament will define the future of devolution in the United Kingdom.
“Lagan Valley needs a strong voice at Westminster to ensure that any further devolution is appropriate and compatible with a strong secure United Kingdom.
“I am proud of the service I have rendered on Lisburn City Council and the new Lisburn and Castlereagh Super Council.
“I trust my experience of fighting for openness, transparency and accountability will serve the people well if I am elected to represent Lagan Valley in Parliament.”
Ulster Unionist Party leader Mike Nesbitt congratulated Mr Redpath on his selection as candidate.
“Alex Redpath is an exceptionally effective political representative who works hard on the ground, listens to people, and gets things done, fast,” said Mr Nesbitt.
“I have no doubt that he would carry forward his excellent track record of service on Lisburn and Castlereagh Council at Westminster.
“I was delighted to note that two very strong candidates put themselves forward for selection in Lagan Valley as the party’s candidate.
“This shows the strength and depth of our public representatives in this area.”
Thus far the DUP, Ulster Unionists and Alliance Party have declared their candidates for the upcoming election.
