Cyclists will be steering a course to Solitude Park, Banbridge on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 June with the arrival of the Street Velodrome circuit.
This dynamic event rides into town as part of the Northern Ireland Festival of Cycling and will offer cyclists of all ages and abilities the opportunity to experience the thrill of competitive lane racing on a state of the art ‘pop up’ cycle track.
On Friday, June 10, local schools and clubs will battle it out on track from 9.15am – 6.30pm. All schools and clubs must book in advance.
On Saturday, June 11, the public can get to grips with the handlebars from 10am – 5pm. Booking is not required.
Street Velodrome is completely free and all equipment is supplied. The Street Velodrome team will be on hand to offer coaching and advice.
Saturday will also offer up a fantastic bicycle themed family fun day which will run from 12 – 3pm. Try your hand at the Turbo Bike Challenge or refresh yourself at the Smoothy Bike, where pedal power creates a delicious cooling drink.
Free health checks are on offer to make sure your bike is ready for some summer cycling and the Cycling Information Stand is available to donate your old, unwanted bikes to charity.
There are plenty of other fun activities on offer including face painting and balloon modelling plus don’t forget to look out for Mr Wizzy on his crazy clown bike.
The Street Velodrome is currently touring the UK as part of the national UK Street Velodrome Series with the Northern Ireland stage happening on Saturday June 4 at the Titanic Quarter, Belfast, before it heads out on a mini tour of the province.
