Work is well underway on the new £16 million Health and Care Centre and Day Care facility in Banbridge.

The latest pictures revealed by the Southern Health and Social Care Trust show the progress of the development which is set to open in early 2016.

The new centre will replace three existing facilities in Banbridge – the Health Centre at Scarva Street, Banbridge Social Education Centre for adults with a learning disability and Copperfields which provides day care to adults with a physical disability.

Paula Clarke, Chief Executive (Interim) of the Southern Health and Social Care Trust said: “We are delighted and really impressed with how our new centre is progressing and staff and clients are excited about moving to more modern and spacious accommodation.

“As well as complementing existing services already provided on the Banbridge Health Village development, this new centre will bring together a range of services in a more accessible ‘one-stop’ environment.”

She continued: “Around 220 staff will be based at the new Health and Care Centre providing a range of community services including physiotherapy, occupational and speech and language therapy, and specialist nursing.

“A rehabilitation suite and two dental surgeries will also be amongst the services available.

“Alongside the Centre, the Day Care facility will have two wings for 46 learning disability places and 20 physical disability places.

“Whilst the contractors are making every effort to minimise disruption around the site as work continues, I would like to thank all of the staff and residents for their patience and understanding as we make these improvements to local services for the people of Banbridge.”
