Youth assaulted and threatened at knifepoint in Dongaghcloney

A Donaghcloney youth was assaulted and threatened at knifepoint last night (July 23), sending shockwaves through the village, according to Councillor Mark Baxter.

Mr Baxter said the young person was assaulted by a motorcyclist at Main Street.

It is understood the motorcyclist stopped the boy and demanded his mobile phone and money, before pushing him to the ground and punching him. A knife was then produced and the boy threatened.

A passerby chased off the assailant.

It is unclear whether the rider was on a motorbike or moped.

Mr Baxter has urged residents to stay vigilant, calling for anyone with information to contact police on 101.

“This is a rare incident for the village, but a very serious one,” he added.
