A number of Banbridge Hockey Club members have recently been selected for Ireland and Ulster at various levels.
Eugene Magee, Drew Carlisle and Stephen Dowds jetted off to Germany to play for the Irish Senior Men’s squad as part of the preparations for the World League Three Tournament which will take place in Belgium and doubles as the crucial Olympic qualifiers.
They helped the Green Machine push Olympic champions Germany all the way in the first test, eventually going down 3-2 before the hosts ran out more comfortable 6-2 winners in the second game.
Additionally, Matthew Bell, Peter Brown, Owen Magee and Bruce McCandless have all been named for the Senior Men’s enlarged training squad for the remainder of 2015.
At Irish Under 18 Level, Kyle Marshall has been selected for the upcoming U18 Boys European Championship in Santander from 19-25 July while Timmy Watt is named as a non-travelling reserve for this tournament.
At an Ulster level Peter Bingham, William Malcomson, Mark Campbell and Adam Marshall were part of the Ulster Junior Interpro squad which played at the Interprovincial Tournament in Cork.
For the ladies, D’Arcey Campbell, Nadia Benallal, Lauren McGaw and Ellen Reid have all been selected for the Ulster U16 development squad for the 2015-16 season.
Kate Cunningham and Roger Martin also played for Ulster Masters at the recent Masters Tournament held this year at Lisnagarvey.
Club President Sheree Totton said; “We are delighted to see Bann players in the various squads and it is a credit to the club and our coaching system that we continue to see so many of our members lining out for Ulster and Ireland.”
