Dromore High School pupils showcase athletic talent

The Ulster Schools’ Track & Field Championships provided the perfect ‘stage’ to showcase the athletic talent currently at Dromore High School.

In what is the premier school sporting event the province has to offer, Dromore were certainly well represented at the Antrim Forum.

After another superb Co Down Championship, Dromore had 12 individual and 4 relay teams that qualified for the ‘Ulsters’.

Indeed the Minor Boys Squad won the team event at the Down Schools’ with Junior Girls coming 3rd and the Junior Boys 4th.

This is the first time that Dromore HS team has won a Down Schools’ team title.

At the Ulster’s, the athletes achieved an impressive haul of 1 gold, 1 silver & 4 bronze medals. Again the Minor Boys had most success with Dean Dillon and Ben Cushnie winning bronze medals in the Shot & 800m. Ben then teamed up Tyler Bain, Sam Smyth, Cameron Beacom-Hurle and Jacob Collins to win a well-deserved bronze in the relay.

Robin Cantley was the Ulster Champion in the JB Discus with Kerry McDowell hurdling to a silver. Kerry was joined by Alanna Wilson, Brooke Shaw & Alex Pelan to win bronze medals in the JG Relay.

As a result of this two athletes, Kerry McDowell (75m Hurdles) and Robin Cantley (Discus), have qualified for the Irish Schools’ Championships.
