Saturday saw Dromore entertain Holywood at Ferris Park and they played what was to be their best game of the season, securing a 2-1 win.

The game started with Dromore up for it from the start and they were putting the Holywood players under pressure. The front three Haslem, M.Rowan and Mallon were causing the Holywood back-line headaches and it was after a foul on Haslem that Dromore got their first goal.

A quick free kick taken by Beattie was flicked on by M.Rowan to Gilliland who took his time and placed the ball into the net.

A lapse in concentration by the Dromore back line allowed the Holywood striker through on goal but a great save by Thompson kept the Dromore lead.

The second goal arrived after 20 minutes when great play in the middle of the park saw M.Rowan play in Haslem who made no mistake from 12 yards.

It was all Dromore at this stage but there were signs of Holywood getting back into the game and they did just that when on 35 mins a goal kick was allowed to bounce straight down the pitch and the Holywood striker slotted the ball past Thompson.

The remaining minutes of the first half saw Dromore under pressure but they held on to take a lead into half time.

The second half began with Dromore in control and they should have extended their lead with Haslem and M.Rowan unable to take their chances.

The game was being played from end to end with both defences being tested with the counter attack.

On 75 mins M. Rowan had a great chance to make it 3-1. When he beat two players but with only the goalkeeper to beat he put his shot past the post. A few minutes later Haslem had a chance but again his shot was wide off the goal.

In the remaining 15 minutes Dromore saw out what was their best performance of the season.

Afterwards, a delighted Brownlee said, “That was a great performance from the lads, the first 25 minutes was a delight to watch. I knew the team had this in them and I’m a happy manager tonight.”

On Tuesday, April 21 Dromore will host the league champions Colin Valley at Ferris Park with a 6.30 kick off before travelling to play Bryansburn on Saturday April 25, 2pm kick-off.
