Saturday saw Dromore host 18th Newtownabbey at Ferris Park in a match they needed to win, with their guests one point ahead but with four more games played.
The game started with Dromore settling in well and they could have had an early goal when Haslem failed to hit the target in the 3rd minute.
On five minutes Dromore had another great chance but Haslem’s first touch took him too close to the on rushing goalkeeper who cleared the danger.
Dromore took the lead in the 8th minute when a corner was tucked away by Martin at the back post from three yards.
This was the reward Dromore needed after putting so much pressure on the visitors.
With their tails up Dromore went in search of a second goal but a stop in play for an injury to the 18th goalkeeper seemed to stem their confidence and they allowed 18th to get their shape back.
On 35 minutes 18th should have got back on level terms when a long ball was poorly dealt with by the Dromore defence and the 18th player with the goal gaping put the ball wide much to the relief of the Dromore players.
The Dromore players knew that the second half was going to be a battle and so it was.
With very little chances to talk about the game was getting more physical with the challenges becoming more meatier and the play was being broken up by a number of yellow cards.
With 20 minutes remaining 18th had a player sent off go dissent but instead of controlling the game in the final 20 minutes Dromore switched off and made the remaining minutes nervy.
Dromore had a few chances in the final 10 minutes to seal the game but poor finishing and good goalkeeping left the score 1-0 to Dromore.
Afterwards manager Brownlee commented: “I was pleased to get the three points and our first clean sheet of the season against a team in and around ourselves.
“Hopefully we can build on this and have the confidence to push on.”
