Donacloney were ousted from the Junior Cup last weekend but they pushed derby opponents Dollingstown Reserves all the way.
The hosts at Planters Park in the end secured a 2-1 victory but they were made to work to put their name in the hat for round two.
Cloney goalkeeper Gary Knox made a first half penalty save, before Dollingstown took a 1-0 lead late in the half.
However, if they thought they were on the way to a routine victory, the were made to think again as Jonny Brown scored on his competitive first team Donacloney debut after recently signing from Broomhedge.
He got on the end of Andrew Rusk’s free-kick delivery to level the scores.
Ciaran Rooney, however, ensured it was a frustrating afternoon for the Cloney as he scored Dollingstown’s winner with a well hit strike into the top corner.
CLONEY: Gary Knox, Jason Stokes, Dave Watterson, Timmy Carson, Jeff Woods, Damien Higgins, Ian Stevenson, Chris Shields, Jonny Brown, Andrew Rusk, Steven Leckey.
Subs: Paul Stevenson (Brown), Dave Ritchie (Shields), Stuart Dickson (Ian Stevenson), Matthew Holmes.
The Cloney Firsts are away to Sandy Hill this week in Round One of the Mid Ulster Shield while the club’s Reserve team return to action after a week’s break with a Reserve Division Three game at home to Donaghmore.
