Banbridge Rangers unbeaten run over neighbours Seapatrick in all competitions was extended further last Saturday at Cheney Park with a 4-1 win in the Preliminary Round of the Bob Radcliffe Cup.

Banbridge Rangers had Ivon Blevins and Scott Ward both starting games for the first time in almost two years after Ward’s leg break and Blevins’ stint with Moneyslane.

There were very few clear cut chances in the opening period for either side as the game failed to live up to normal derby expectations. The Gers took the lead in the 37th minute when striker Cunningham scored his third goal in the three games after nicking the ball off Dean Lennon before curling into the far corner.

The second half saw more purpose from the Rangers camp and it wasn’t long until a second goal arrived. The Gers teenage playmaker Teggart released Cousins down the left channel to the byline where he reversed the ball to the opposite end of the box for Jonny Porter to come onto the ball like a steam train and drill a powerful shot into the far corner.

Within 30 seconds Seapatrick had issued a reply with Adam McBurney racing free and seeing his shot from the edge of the box clip the inside of the post.

Just after the hour mark Teggart went close with a left foot drive that clipped the top of the bar and then crossed a minute later for Cousins who headed just over.

In the 63rd minute Rangers regained their two goal advantage when Chris Chambers slotted home a penalty after Porter was tripped in the box by keeper Buchanan.

The match was wrapped up ten minutes later when a flowing move from back t front was finished off by Colin Cousins who joined Cunningham in scoring in every game so far this season.

Banbridge Rangers will now progress to Round One of the Bob Radcliffe Cup with a tricky tie against Dungannon Swifts Reserves scheduled for Saturday 29th August at Stangmore Park.

The next league fixture for the Gers is away to Hanover this Tuesday evening (tonight) with kick off at 6.30pm.
