Moneyslane striker Brendan Kingsmore struck twice in the final 10 minutes to seal a 2-0 win over Banbridge YCOB on Saturday.
The victory secures safe passage through to round two of the Marshall Cup for the Intermediate A leaders, who were made to work for it.
The game at Scarva Park had been a struggle for Slane, despite the five divisions sepearating the sides, but the late goals proved enough, much to the relief of boss Dan Thornton.
“We were far from our best but got the job done,” he said. “I have to mention the importance of a strong squad. as today showed. All three subs came on and had a big impact on the game. Our focus now turns to Portstewart this Saturday in the Irish Cup second round.
“One last thing is the fans deserve massive credit for bearing those horrible conditions to support the boys and I can assure you the boys are very grateful as always.”
