Banbridge Town celebrated the tenth anniversary of the Bob Larmour Cup last Saturday in perfect style.
Not only did the day include all sections of the club, it ended in some style, Ryan Moffatt’s strike seeing off Cliftonville to secure only Town’s second victory in the trophy in 10 years.
Events kicked off with the club’s Juniors enjoying off-pitch activities supported by SUBWAY’S mascot ‘Mr Subby’.
At 11am special guest Ken Duncan, Co-coordinator from the IFA Mid-Ulster Games Development presented medals to the players from the Mid-Ulster Games Development.
Following this presentation, the players from Banbridge Town Juniors Under-15s and the Under-15s from Portadown FC took to the pitch and entertained the large crowd to a nine-a-side friendly match with some high quality football.
At 1pm a memorable occasion was witnessed when ‘The new Banbridge Town Football Club family,’ that included the Juniors, the Ladies, the Seniors first team, both squads from the club’s seconds and thirds teams plus committee members, came together for a memorable photograph - never before seen in Banbridge.
The football day ended perfectly as Banbridge Town Seniors recorded a 1-0 victory over a strong Cliftonville outfit to win the Bob Larmour Cup.
Captain Ryan Moffatt got the crucial goal on 63 minutes when he burst through the defence and clipped the ball over the advancing keeper into the net.
New Seniors Chairman Dominic Downey was delighted with the day’s proceedings and has a clear vision for the club in the future. He said: “This is a new era for Banbridge Town FC and Saturday 25th July 2015 will be forever remembered as the day football in the town came together to take the club to a new and exciting level.
“The whole experience of the day is exactly the direction that I want to see the club go. We go forward from here and we will build on this success and I truly believe the club will go from strength to strength.
“Everyone who helped put the day together deserve great credit. The caterers from the Ladies team and committee gave five star service to the Larmour family and to all who were present throughout the day.
“We showcased our club at a high level and I was especially impressed with how our lush green pitch looked, it was absolutely fantastic.”
