Clifford Sterritt guided the club to promotion to the Amateur League’s Premier Division but on Thursday it was announced he has stepped down for personal reasons.

“Clifford took the reins of the Rangers in February 2015 and kept the team in the Northern Amateur Football League Division 1A with a superb run of results late in the league campaign,” said the club’s Facebook page.

“This season he guided the Whites to the heights of a fifth-round Irish Cup tie against Crusaders, the NAFL Divison 1A title and promotion to the NAFL Premier Division.

“The club’s committee gives its sincere thanks Clifford for his outstanding spell leading the Rangers and the success he has brought to Iveagh Park - he is a pure winner.

“We wish him and his family all the best for whatever the future holds.”

Rathfriland join Banbridge Rangers in the search for a new manager, with some tipping ex Lisburn Distillery and Lisburn Rangers boss Paul Kirk to take over at Iveagh Park.
