Commemorating the Reformation in Dromore

SIR - This year marks the 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.

It was 31st October 1517 that Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the doors of the Castle Church in Wittenberg. This act is accepted in history as the commencement of the Reformation that was to spread across Europe and further afield.

Martin Luther had rediscovered that biblical truth that Justification is by faith alone and he desired to spread that message abroad. Many embraced the truth and came to saving faith in Christ.

To commemorate the Reformation, Dromore Free Presbyterian Church is holding a special week of meetings, commencing Sunday, March 19 at 7pm and continuing Monday to Friday at 8pm.

The speaker each night will be Rev Dr Ron Johnstone.

He is the Minister of Newtownards Free Presbyterian Church and also Grand Chaplain of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland. Throughout the week he will deal with subjects such as, The Causes of the Reformation and The Conversion of Martin Luther, as well as showing the relevance of the Reformation for today.

Many invitations have been distributed including an open invitation to local Orange Lodges. In a day when the term Protestant has been maligned and misunderstood the meetings are an opportunity to examine our Gospel heritage and reaffirm our Protestant faith.

Yours Rev Ian Kenny
